The Rainmaker Difference
Two friends are camping in the backwoods when a grizzly bear tears open the back of their tent. They hurry out the front door and start running, but one friend stops, kneels down and starts tying his shoe. The other friend calls back over his shoulder, “What are you doing? You can’t outrun a grizzly!” The first friend, now back on his feet and closing the gap says, “I don’t have to beat the bear, I just have to beat you.”
You’ve probably heard this joke before. It has been told many times in many different forms. It is Steven Covey’s 7th habit, “Sharpen the Saw”. It is the principal behind Spencer Johnson’s best selling book, “Who Moved My Cheese?” And it is a totally appropriate story for the market that you face today.
These are tough times, but you have a choice that will allow you to control your destiny. Do you wait and hope the bear doesn’t catch you? Or do you take a few seconds to tie your shoes so you can outrun both the bear and your competition? Will you hope the market is kind to you? Or will you take control of your destiny and take proactive steps to make sure you thrive?
